The painting above the fireplace was painted by local artist Brenton Homans. Brenton attended N.S. College of Art and Design during the mid 1930’s, and went on to establish a successful art career – primarily in oil painting. His work can be found in many local homes, as well as throughout North America.
The painting above the fireplace was first painted in 1956, and at that time there were two fishermen in the boat. When he was asked to touch up the painting in 1984, one of the fishermen must have fallen overboard, as there is only one left. Other artwork by Brenton are the painted poles in the bar area. When this addition was built in 1955, the support posts were quite ugly, so Brenton painted his version of Totem Poles.
